Daily IndependentSurprise Pops Band Slates Spring Fling Concert - Daily Independent Newspaper article

The Surprise Pops Band’s Spring Fling concert will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 17, at The Vista Center for the Arts, 15660 N. Parkview Place.

The program will include music from the movies and Broadway, a Latin Celebration and a Beach Boys medley.

Admission is free, but audience members are asked to make a financial or food donation to support the band and its beneficiary, the Valley View Community Food Bank.

"Our March concert is exciting because of its unusual variety," said Clark Chaffee, conductor of the band since 2019. “Performing at The Vista is a highlight of our concert season because of the opportunity to entertain a large audience in a beautiful facility with excellent acoustics. Everyone in the band looks forward to putting on a performance that audience members will enjoy and remember.”

The Surprise Pops Band dates back to 1976 when it began as the Sun City Polka Band; the band’s name changed when it became associated with the city of Surprise.

The group plays seven or eight concerts during its six-month season, and its roster includes more than 80 musicians.

Members of the band come from all walks of life, and include professional musicians, music educators, and retirees who have rediscovered their passion for music and ensemble playing.
